Price County Historical Society Museum
The Price County Historical Society Museum is housed in the 1894 Fifield Town Hall at the junction of Highways 13 and 70, about four miles south of Park Falls. The original 1882 hall burned in the Fifield fire of 1893, and head carpenter Theodore Ristin rebuilt it the following spring with the same dimensions: two stories, a clerk's room with a vault, a two-celled jail downstairs and an opera house upstairs.
The building is a two-story frame vernacular structure with its original narrow wood clapboards, a fieldstone foundation and three crowned red brick chimneys. The downstairs clerk's room once held town records, heard court cases and served as a temporary morgue until the coroner arrived from the county seat. The town used the hall until 1966 and gave it to the historical society in 1968; it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 17, 1978.
Inside are logging photographs, tools from the lumber-camp era, records from the early sawmills that lined the Flambeau and exhibits on the ghost town of Coolidge. Admission is free.
