Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial is located adjacent to the Worzella Pines Park in Plover.  Nestled on an island in Lake Pacawa, the Memorial pays tribute to Wisconsin residents that fought, died, or who are still listed as Missing in Action (MIA) as a result of the Korean War.

The Korean War took place from June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953. Wisconsin lost 801 lives in this conflict. Another 4,286 were wounded. One-hundred-eleven (111) were prisoners of war (54 of them died in Prisoner-of-War camps). There are still 84 officially listed as MIA.

Visitors who pass thru the gateway will take a short walk up the “Isle of Honor” to the Memorial. There is a Main Wall upon entering and on the reverse side of the wall are Memorial Tiles. The Memorial Statuary is composed of five larger-than-life figures that stand for all veterans who served from the State of Wisconsin. A nurse leads the group, followed by Army and Marine infantrymen, an Air Force pilot and a sailor. The statutes face east, towards Korea, in memory of those who lost their lives or are still MIA. There are no weapons on the Memorial – to confirm the veterans’ wish for peace.
