McGowan House

This beautifully restored 1889 historic home takes the visitor back to the days of Dr. Washington Emmet McGowan and his family. Each room is furnished in the Victorian style. The adjacent barn has also been restored and is open for public visitation. Visitors can view the home, adjoining Niebull Schoolhouse and barn. Access to the McGowan family’s extensive archives that are stored at the McGowan House is permitted for research. 

The McGowan House is owned and managed by the Adams County Historical Society.

Hours of Operations: The House, barn and Niebull School are open on Saturdays from May through September from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Other times are available by appointment. Groups are welcome.
