UWSP Museum of NH – Collection Crawl open house 2014

The Museum of Natural History on the University of Stevens Point campus is the exhibit arm UWSP’s teaching and research collections, holding over 400,000 natural science specimens. Composed of extensive wildlife dioramas and rotating exhibits, this facility offers a fascinating glimpse into the natural sciences and cultural heritage of Central Wisconsin—and Africa!  Warm your toes in front of the African Savanna exhibit or enjoy the popular shade of the Northern Forests biome.  Other featured exhibits include the Menominee Clans Story featuring the origin story of the Menominee People represented as highly detailed carvings of the original clan animals by renowned Menominee artist James Frechette Jr.

Museum Director Dr. Ray Reser examines #50, a 400 pound male Black Bear vehicle casualty donated by the Wisconsin DNR for the Museum’s vertebrate mammal collection.

The Museum of Natural History is an educational destination for all ages within the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP). The Museum specializes in offering insight into the natural world through its vast natural science collections, including archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from Wisconsin’s first peoples. Our facility provides an opportunity for public understanding and appreciation through exhibitions, education, research and public service.
